Cincinnati Bridge Association Board of Directors:   
Minutes of the Regular Meeting of February 8, 2011

Board President Stephani called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m. Present were: Mary Clifton, Cordell Coy, Debbie Cummings, Patrick Hoffman Gayle Keaney, Everitt Kitchen, Barb Levinson, Potter Orr, Mike Purcell, Chris Schwartz, and A.J. Stephani. Members Absent: None

The January minutes were approved.

AJ Stephani and Potter Orr plan to take teacher courses during the upcoming Nationals.

AJ is responding in writing to Bob VeVerkas’s request for reasons that his teaching privileges at CBC have been suspended.

Treasurer Keaney provided current P&L and Balance Sheet statements and additionally a P&L by month spreadsheet for 2010 with table fees categorized by the games of the week. Gayle expects to use these and other new categorizations to improve understanding of our ongoing income and expenses.

Chris Schwartz described plans for establishing a sitting, conversation, and reception area at CBC. The plans include the purchase of leather couches, chairs and a coffee table to be located near the north entrance to the club. Coat racks and bookcases will be relocated as part of this conversion. A motion was made and passed to authorize $2500 for the improvements.

Debbie Cummings discussed the need for replacing several of the blue chairs which are failing. By the April board meeting she and Potter Orr will make a recommendation for replacements, likely including the purchase of 10-20 chairs at a time at a cost of $100/ chair.

AJ recommended that additional compensation be provided to Mike Lipp, our CBC coordinator , for assuming the duties of Unit Tournament Coordinator previously provided by the Unit Secretary. A motion was made and approved to provide free plays for Mike at the Cincinnati Regional and Fall Sectional tournament.

The Granovetters will be making a presentation at CBC on February 22 covering aids for playing at National tournaments.

The board agreed to support Sheryl Wilson the club manager and sanction owner at the Boone County Bridge Club (a club in our Unit) by providing information about game operations, including an invitation to observe operations at CBC.

After many years of service, Tom Deddens is retiring as the organizer and director of the Novice/Intermediate game on Tuesday evenings. Agreeing with a recommendation from Tom, Mike Lipp has selected Rob Weidenfeld who has agreed to be Tom’s replacement. AJ asked for ideas for honoring Tom perhaps at the awards party on April 5.

Mike Lipp has contacted the Indianapolis club and received a favorable response to suggestions for renewing an annual competition.

Regarding the Cincinnati Regional, Potter reported having placed the ad for the ACBL Bulletin. Lorna Davis will repeat as partnership chair. Team games will use average MP within flights. Flights will be established based on the highest MP total for any team member.
